
Nick Chell
CEng, FIMarEST Marine Engineer
Nick Chell, a Chartered Engineer with an Extra First Class Certificate joined London Offshore Consultants from Lloyd’s Register. Nick has many years sea going experience with slow and medium speed diesel engines and served in all ranks, including 5 years as Chief Engineer. He has worked on a wide variety of vessel types including bulk carriers, ro-ros, general cargo and reefer container ships and was involved in drydock, repair and conversion work.
At Lloyd’s Register, Nick worked in their Technical Investigation Department, involved in the investigation of machinery problems and failures, often involving metallurgical examination. Prior to this he worked in their Fuel Oil Bunker Analysis and Advisory Service (FOBAS) and was involved in the investigation of fuel and lubricant related machinery problems.
Nick has presented technical papers at International Conferences including a CIMAC paper on “Contamination of Crosshead Engine Crankcase Oils” and has a book published by the Institute of Marine Engineers entitled “Operation and Maintenance of Machinery in Motorships”.
Nick has attended as expert witness in a number of arbitrations and in Court, relating to machinery failure, bunker problems and other disputes.
Other work includes hull and machinery damage surveys, bunker disputes, crane failure investigations and seaworthiness and charterparty disputes. He also conducts pre-purchase and condition surveys.
